Liberation
Before we crack on with our Sodastream feature, it's good news from Daddy & Dad HQ this week - we've been liberated! From lock-down, that is... Here in Leicester we've been shut in now since the first week of March (Lyall had a cough which meant we started two weeks early, too). So, we're delighted our village on the outskirts of the city has been released from the lock-down zone. Chatting to our lovely neighbour as I put the bins out this morning (I always wait to see which bin Maureen puts out), Maureen, who knows literally everybody in our village is convinced we haven't had a single local case of the dreaded 'rona. So we're feeling a little happier about the boys playing outside on the village green, with Maureen's expert insight in mind.
Right - on with Sodastream!
Sodastream support the ILGA
To mark Pride this year, Sodastream made a donation to ILGA and produced a wonderful Pride themed accessory kit - also donating proceeds from its sales to ILGA. The ILGA is The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association and has members from 164 countries. It campaigns for LGBTQ+ rights across the world.
Bravo, Sodastream - we salute you!
Sodastream Spirit
Who doesn't love a fizzy drink, right? Well, (and if you didn't know this, where have you been hiding for 117 years?) Sodastream, invented back in 1903, injects fizz into water.
As part of their Pride campaign, mentioned above, we've been provided with a Sodastream Spirit - a stylish, mid-range model, and the Pride themed accessory kit, which is available to purchase in selected regions. We'll be reviewing the Sodastream Spirit here.
What's in the box?
Inside the box there's the Sodastream device, a gas cylinder, a large 1ltr Sodastream bottle and instructions. There's no batteries or electronics to worry about here - it's all gas-powered.
How's it look?
The device itself is stylish but unassuming. We have the black variant, in shiny plastic with a textured effect to the top part - it fits in quite effortlessly in a modern kitchen like ours. There are other colours available, for instance there's a really lovely white and gold version, teal, purple and rose gold among others. Our black Sodastream Spirit matches our other kitchen accessories perfectly.
How does it work?
It's quite simple. You fill the bottle to the line with cold water (or tea, if you're Richard), insert it into the upwards at a slight angle into the device, push backwards and let go.
Then, push the big button on the top of the device three times to release the fizz into the water.
That's it! Then you can release the bottle, pop the lid back on and put it into the fridge to chill for later.
Where can you buy one?
The Sodastream Spirit 'Hydration Pack' which includes extra accessories, cordials and all the basics we mentioned in our kit is currently £99. It's available via the Sodastream website.
We should mention there are some really nifty-looking models in the range including an 'automatic' electronic version and a very contemporary Crystal model which looks a little like a champagne cooler (Aunty Emily would love that one).
We should also mention, the gas cylinder does eventually run out (although after a month of daily use with ours it's still going) and they're available on a return/replace subscription from the Sodastream website or can be purchased individually from Sodastream or Amazon.
In Summary
It's a simple summary this. It's an absolute 10/10.
We can't actually believe we didn't have a Sodastream since, well, forever. In fact I can't think, other than our coffee machine, of a kitchen accessory that we've adopted so quickly and integrated into our lifestyle like this before.

Awesome guys. I still remember begging my parents for a soda stream. Used to love them.
